This was a recommendation on my Kindle and after reading the description I was really intrigued. I had never read anything by Nyrae so I didn't know what to expect...I ended up loving this book. The characters are so real and I swear I felt every emotion that did. I laughed, cried, gasped. Besides being a novel about a not so love story that you know is going to turn into a love story between Colt and Chey it is also a heartwarming story. Both Colt and Chey are dealing with things that happen to everybody. Even if it hasn't happened to you personally, you can at least imagine what it would be like and it made me cry right along with the characters. It was a no brainer this book definitely deserves 5 stars and I would recommend to any of my friends. I'm really looking forward to reading more of Nyrae's books!Product details

Court Charade is one of those books that I had the wonderful joy of discovering as a self-published novel...and completely fell in love with Nyrae Dawn's writing! I went through several in less than a week, and shed 'a many 'a tear along that journey...and have since been hounding Shelley and adding it to our joint TBR list! Shel She has and I did!
Court I fell in love with Colt from the first time we meet him, and I knew this tattooed boy with a chip on his shoulder was going to be a doozy! He was. He has many a secret, but goes along with Cheyenne's game for kicks. He gets way more than he bargained for, but I still remember the smile on my face when they first meet in that coffee shop!
Shel He's so bossy and swoony and tortured and I love it! He says what he thinks and pretty much demands Cheyenne do the same. His ability to cut through the crap and be real was refreshing...and interesting because he wasn't always so real himself. He hides behind his "I don't give a rat's ass" shield a lot, justifiably so...but it makes his desire for her to be real a smidge hypocritical.
Court Cheyenne, on the other hand, is a pretty relatable girl. I really liked and enjoyed getting to know her, and was super glad that she was ready to go to pretty drastic lengths to get back at the douchebag who wronged her. Since I've been giving advice this week that my friend should go glee on a cheater who she met online but is married with a baby....yeah...and want her to throw a slushy in his face in a highly public place....you can see that I might be excited by such a plot line!
Shel I liked Cheyenne and her desire to tell her ex to shove it. She really never looks back...never wants him back.. but does want him to get a nice dose of what it feels like to be jealous. I love that he tries to continually creep his way back in and she ALWAYS rejects him. She has a little growing up to do and a lot of learning how to trust but I had a ton of respect for her and her willingness to grow and learn and love Cole for exactly who he is. She never really tried to change him and she was great support (as he was to her) when he really needed it.
Court Then. The feels. Oh the feels. Come at you in a highly unanticipated way. I was amazed and moved by it. And while it hurt, so hard, I was really excited about how amazingly written the whole second half of the book was and how genuine the scenes are. And the fact that an unlikely fledgling relationship has these sorts of tribulations to get through....eeek! It set my heart racing! Court Agreed..good stuff!
Court I LOVED THIS BOOK! THE END!

This is the first time I have read any of Nyrae's books. I saw it as a referral from one of my favorite Authors. And, unfortunately, in all honesty, if the writing is like this in all of her books, I don't think I can keep reading them. PLEASE don't take this the wrong way. The story is really good! But the writing is REALLY hard to follow. It just seems.....Chunky, if that makes any sense. It doesn't flow easily. It's kinda like you're walking along but can't seem to focus on the ground easy enough to keep from tripping up.
Example "He stares me down, his eyes narrowed. I give him my best smile. Gregory takes a step toward me when the professor walks in and starts talking." (What happened after the professor walks in?) That is probably not the best example, there are quite a few of them, but my point is there is a lot of areas where information is left out. They may be small things, but when there are A LOT of them, it causes the story to be broken up too much and causes you to pause and try and figure out what Nyrae is trying to get across with her characters and it gets confusing and frustrating. Like I said, I guess the easiest way to explain it is that it doesn't flow easily.
With all of that said, the story is still a good one. You have a bad boy, good girl, love story, little action and some REALLY sad stuff. This is definitely not a Young Adult read. At least 18 years or older. There is Sexual content and language with a lot of F Bombs.
As for recommending it? I guess if you don't mind doing a little struggling on figuring things out in your head to make the story work, then you will enjoy this read. If you don't like to have to try and figure out what the Author is trying to say, then you should skip this one.
CHARADE was an okay book for me. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it, it was just a quick and fun read, with some serious parts. So if you're just looking for a fast read, with some serious moments in it, you could read CHARADE; but for me it just wasn't amazing.
I don't have anything to pinpoint that I didn't like about the book, it just wasn't anything special for me. I had a hard time picturing what Chayenne and Colt looked like, and for some reason that don't make me love a book. I guess when you can picture the characters well it maked you feel closer to them.
As for the story in CHARADE it is good. It starts out with Chayenne walking in on her boyfriend with another girl, he trying to beg her to stay with him, but she stays strong and leaves him. That's when she meets Colt, and try to convince him to be her pretend boyfriend so her ex will see that she can easily move on. From there everything evolves, and Chayenne and Colt get to know each other better, and they share their problems and try to solve them together.
I didn't have any favorite characters in this book, but I was intrigued by Colt's roommate Adrian. That's the only reason for why I might pick up the sequel, because he's one of the main characters in it!
